A Healthy Smile Makes a Happy Pet
Your pet’s oral health is an important part of their overall well-being. Dental disease can cause pain, damaged teeth, and infections, and untreated problems can affect more than just the mouth. At East & West Animal Hospital, we take a comprehensive approach to dental care, from routine oral exams and professional cleanings to dental radiographs and extractions when needed.
Professional Dental Exams & Cleanings
Regular dental checkups allow us to monitor your pet’s teeth and gums and identify problems such as plaque, tartar, inflammation, or damaged teeth. Professional cleanings are performed under general anesthesia, allowing our team to safely and thoroughly clean below the gumline while keeping your pet comfortable. Throughout the procedure, we closely monitor your pet’s vital signs and anesthetic depth.
Dental Radiographs
A healthy-looking tooth doesn’t always mean a healthy tooth. Dental radiographs allow us to see beneath the gumline and evaluate the roots, jawbone, and structures that can’t be seen during a routine oral exam. These images can help us identify problems such as tooth root disease, abscesses, bone loss, or other abnormalities and determine the most appropriate treatment.
Dental Extractions
When a tooth is severely damaged, diseased, or causing pain, extraction may be the best way to restore your pet’s comfort and oral health. Our team uses careful techniques and appropriate anesthesia and pain management to help keep your pet safe and comfortable throughout the procedure and recovery.
At-Home Dental Care
Professional cleanings are only part of maintaining a healthy smile. Regular brushing at home can help reduce plaque buildup between veterinary visits. We can also recommend pet-safe dental products, chews, and other strategies based on your companion’s needs—and show you how to make brushing a more comfortable part of their routine.
We believe oral health is an important part of whole-pet wellness. By combining thorough dental evaluation, modern veterinary techniques, and individualized care, we can help your companion maintain a healthier, more comfortable smile for years to come.
